Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), GmbH is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development owned by the Federal Republic of Germany. On behalf of the German Government, GIZ has been operating in Timor-Leste since 2000 in several projects in many fields in cooperation with a range of different actors, such as economic development and employment promotion; and peace building and civil conflict transformation. GIZ supports Timorese governmental organizations and civil society.


The project “Support to Peaceful Development through Innovative Employment Promotion” is looking for a Field Coordinator to support the implementation of project activities in the target municipality Baucau. The project follows a value chain approach and has identified pig farming and carpentry as the value chains to be promoted.



The Field Coordinator will support the implementation and monitoring of activities along the value chains. He/she will identify problems and assist in finding practical solutions.



Main Tasks


§  Manage and facilitate the implementation of various project activities

§  Maintain contact with all important stakeholders at municipality level

§  Cooperate strongly with the project’s target groups

§  Give technical support to various actors along the value chains

§  Contribute to the design of training courses, campaigns and awareness creating activities

§  Support in organizing trainings, workshops and other events

§  Follow up of trainings and when required coaching to the target groups

§  Liaise with the government offices and other relevant institutions at municipality level

§  Assist local and international experts in carrying out their work in Baucau  municipality

§  Contribute to documentation of training events, workshops, team meetings, other project activities and report writing

§  Support the monitoring of project progress

§  Oversee the work of the project’s field officers


Other duties / additional tasks

The Field Coordinator

  • performs other duties and tasks at the request of the management


Entry Qualifications and Competencies

Formal Education

  • Bachelor or Master in rural development, economics, agriculture


Professional Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of working experience in a similar position
  • Experience with value chain approach, business development, conflict management     and employment sector are assets
  • Familiarity with government structures in Timor-Leste
  • Hands-on experience in monitoring


Further Skills

  • Strong communication and advisory skills
  • Good negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Flexibility and readiness to travel within the municipality, to Dili (also by motorbike), and if needed to other destinations
  • Tetum speaker, good language skills in English and Bahasa Indonesia
  • Good command of MS office
