Position Description Community Development Worker
The Baguai Sub-District Administration provides local governance and support to the community of Baguia, an area of 10 villages and a population of 13,000. Since 2005, the Friends of Baguia (a voluntary group in Australia) has been working closely with the Sub-District Administration to support the community of Baguia.
This has occurred through a small Timorese sub-committee (Komisaun Kiik) and has taken the form of income generation projects such as craft production.
A suitably skilled and experienced volunteer is now required to capacity-build the staff of the Sub-District Administration, so that they can provide an improved level of services to their community. This will include administration and management skills as well as the ability to submit grant applications for much needed infrastructure or small-business opportunities.
The role will also focus on opportunities for local women and youth and accessing educational opportunities for all.
The successful applicant will have a relevant qualification and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of community development principles and working with community groups.
Experience attracting funding and developing relationships within local and national organisations will be vital to the success of this assignment.
This assignment will be based in an isolated environment so the volunteer will need to be able to demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of the challenges and rewards of such a lifestyle.
